How do these work in smaller tanks?

I'm a bit anal with equipment in my tank and I'm curious if there is a minimum tank size these things are suggested to run in?

I'm planning to upgrade to a 46g bow front by christmas time and I'm putting serious thought into giving one of these pumps a shot.

I'm curious how these things perform in smaller tanks and what impact they'd have on things like your sand bed and such.

Anyone have some videos of these things running in smaller tanks? Or personal experience with them in tanks 3' long or less?

Thanks guys.

We have customers who use our MP40w in tanks as small as 20 gallons and MP20's in tanks as small as 10. The MP20 can be turned down to as little as 500gph and the MP40w can go down to 1000.

I believe I read that these things down ranked to do all their options though? So if I had it running at the minimum setting, would it still be able to do all options like reefcrest mode, feed mode, and such?

At the absolute minimum setting there won't be any change in the random modes. You will need it a little above the minimum setting. That being said, a 46 gal bow is not so small that you will need this pump at it's minimum setting. You could run an MP20 full speed on a 46gal bow.

Sounds good. Do the new Gen2 mp40w's have a long life expectancy? Main draw to this pump is it will always have a place no matter how large a tank I upgrade into. Do these pumps last 5+ years? Or at least the motor assembly?

These pumps should easily last 5+ years and they are completely modular so you can always replace one part or another to keep them going longer than that if you want.

I have 2 on a 60 cube I cant seem to get a wave in this small space, they are on one side slightly above and below one another.

The flow rocks I use them in sinc mode on a five second surge 100 percent power (pink) and the 50 percent flat in night mode. Its awsome water movement but a slightly noisy during the surge period.
