A female femininus wrasse is arriving tomorrow, will like to find out how do u guys QT this wrasse. Is prazipro safe?

I have used Prazipro with several expensive wrasses (Rhomboid, Lineatus) with no issues. I have never kept a femininus personally. I did start with 50% dosage on treatment Day 1 as I do with most fish, then add additional 50% Day 2 if all is going well.

I have to be super careful with prazipro this time, I am going to start with 1/3 of dosage. However, I am not sure if I will use cupramine.....please advise.

All three of mine went thru 4 weeks of cupramine in a 170L QT with 2" of sand with no issues...

Be sure to test copper levels religiously/daily when using in a tank with sand.

I would be very careful exposing Anampses spp. wrasse to either chelated or free copper based medications. These fishes have a very thick slime coat and are rarely affected by Amyloodinium or Cryptocaryon infection.

Anampses spp. are however very prone to infestations of external nematodes (flukes) so freshwater baths, along with and slowly adjusting them up to a therapeutic dose of Metronidazole and Praziquantel (I like to use API General Cure by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. which contains both Metro and Prazi in a powder form) in a quarantine aquarium with fine sandy substrate over the course of a three to four days is ideal in my experience handling these fishes over the years.

Additionally adding General Cure at the rare of 250 mg/100 grams of food letting it soak in for 15 minutes prior to feeding works very well once theses fishes are settled in well and eating properly.

Best of luck to you with this incredible species of fish!

Thanks for the advice...both femininus wrasse and earl wrasse are active at the QT. I added methyl blue during acclimation just now. I would really say that femininus wrasse is one of the best looking wrasse that I have ever seen......

Yeah great info I will try the API general cure next round I QT. Such a beautiful fish with any luck you'll have a male in a few years. Spectacular!

I have just purchased the API general cure...many thanks.

I was not able to take pic at the moment as they got stressed out as soon as I turned on the light. The femininus wrasse is very active, she is constantly picking at live rock....

Time for pics....she is around 4", very active and constantly looking for food.

Zoasman,
Congratulations on the femininus! I have had the good fortune in my current position to handle quite a few of these spectacular fishes.

Just an observation but based on the overall appearance of the fish you have pictured, she is very skinny in the lower abdomen and the upper margins above the eyes and behind the head is quite pinched, which shows signs of malnutrition.

She is going to take some serious effort to get her in good health but it can be done. I would strongly encourage enriching a mix of frozen Hikari Mysis, Frozen Brine, and rinsed PE Mysis in Selcon and feeding this mixture up to 10 times per day if you can manage.

I am not sure where you obtained this fish, but if you purchased it from LiveAquaria please call our customer service department to explain the situation as this is not acceptable whatsoever for us to send out a fish in this condition.

Sweet fish! I recently became a big fan of wrasses. First experience was bad with a six line. Then I got a Melanurus. Gorgeous and friendly.

Also thanks Kohen, I saw general cure around but never used it. I didn't realize it had such a use with food. It's on my to get list for sure. I typically treat any of my fish with Prazi and Cupramine. For infection, Maracyn2.

Thanks for your advice, Kevin, I am feeding her PE mysis, caviar, and pellets at the moment. She is still stressed out from shipping, she just started to eat. It seems like she is a picky eater, however, she does like to go thru sand and find here own food. I am going to make sure she is fat and healthy again.
