How do you auto top off?

It doesn't come with the tubing -- it has everything you need to mount the switches and a power cord to plug your pump into. So you'd just need to add the tubing to run from your reservoir pump to the sump. Then yes it will power the pump when the water level falls below the bottom float switch.

The upper switch is just a fail safe -- in case the bottom switch gets stuck on, it will cut the power when the water level gets to the upper switch to prevent an overflow. Mine has never had to kick in but I like the extra safety of knowing it's there.

The switch is fairly sensitive. It turns on several times each day for probably 5-8 seconds each time, so it keeps the volume very stable. If you have any waves in your sump, they have an additional piece you can add on to dampen the effect so it's not turning on and off constantly.

I know there are cheaper DIY options, but I wasn't looking for a project and I've been very happy with this system.

I have a system from AquaHub that was EASY to build and cost $30(now $40). Had a pump sitting around and an extension cord and I was done. They make a three-switch model for stopping the run-dry problem.

If you want a plug and play, look at Auto Top Off. They make a complete package for $50. Well.....you need to supply the pump.

;)

tsunami auto top off. love it but i wish a had purchased a pump that automatically shuts off when it runs dry! forgot to fill reservoir a few times and burned the pump.....

any body use a float switch with their ato reservoir? does the float switch connect to the ro/di which fills the reservoir???

I use the double switch sump unit from autotopoff.com, along with a MJ400 pump in a 5g bucket of RO water. I have to refill the reservoir about once a week.

+1

I have used this option for about 3 years and it rocks. My system has a float valve in the 'bucket' of RODI that is connected to the RODI. When the bucket is low, the float valve goes on and fills it. I never touch anything except once or twice a year soaking the float switches in vinegar.

The one from autotopoff.com does look pretty good. Seems like something I'm looking for. The fail safe back up sensor is a nice feature as well.
