How do you clean a filter sock

I know this is a dumb question, but i am just now using filter socks. I was told to put it in the washing machine with bleach, but wouldn't some of the bleach remain after the rinse cycle and then go into the tank.

I need a little bit of help here.

washing machine w/ bleach works best, then just rinse it in some RO after you take it out. If your machine has a setting for extra rinse, use it.

pressure hose. Takes out mainly the big stuff, I need to get my own washermachine as I quote my Mom:rolleyes:

it's pretty gross after a few days and I haven't put one in the washing machine cause it's gross and I don't want any of that residue on my clothes so I just toss them. okay, okay run-on sentence....

i run them thru the clothswasher, once with bleach, and a second time with nothing added. Of corse, i dont put them in with my cloths.

good luck, Mike:D

gesh,

throw then away and put in a new one. more effective. if you order them from.... hmm filter bags.com at around less then 5.00 a peice at a box of 50. This way your filter bag is effective. You wil not be chancing the introduction of soaps of bleach in your tank. In the long run this is way cheaper and less frustrating that killing a few fish that you may have had for years.

lol just thrown them in with your white lol jk:D

i just put them in the washing machine with bleach and an extra rince...

My boss, who has been in the hobby for 20+ years, uses his washing machine. He has two, and cycles them; while one is in service, the other is washed and waiting. He's never had a problem.

I don't know about you, wishn, but I can't afford a box of 50 at $5 apiece.

You guys certain that all that brown stuff on the socks leaves the washing machine? I know the bleach will oxydize most of it, but it's still too nasty to even think about sharing a machine to clean those with clothes.

Gabriel If I throw a filter sock in with the whites... Under my screen name it will say "Moved On"...Heaven that is:D

Try this: Cut top off bleach bottle dilute bleach [1/4 bleach? tap water rest]soak over nite ,wash under tap, soak in tap water with chlorine/chloramine remover[AMQUEL OR CORALIFE ] usually 10-12 hours.Let air dry.I use the bleach solution over and over again til its bad.Been working good for years.

I turn inside out rinse under tap squeeze tell the water turns clear let dry then throw in washer. I did cut the little loop thing out to turn inside out.
