How Do You Feed Anthias While At Work...?

How do you feed your Anthias while you're at work for most of the day...?

Auto feeders? If so what works well...? Do you just give them their many meals when you get home--perhaps having the lights come on later in the day for when you are home...?

In my experience with anthias as long as you feed them in the morning and the evening they will do fine. Having higher metabolisms, the anthias may do better with frequent small meals through out the day. If you are feeding live foods such as live baby brine, many aquariums use drip feeders to provide a constant but small trickle of live food into the aquarium. Perhaps this may work for you

i agree.. i dont know who came up with this "you need to feed them 5 times a day" rule...

When first imported, they need to be fed often, small (tiny) pieces of food. As they get used to captivity, they will eat larger food and more of it, per feeding. Eventually, most anthias can get by with one or two extended feedings per day. I feed mine only once I get home from work.

I am curious how long you all have maintained your Anthias on a once or twice per day feeding schedule. The reason I ask is because I have recently purchased a trio of Yellow Pyramid Butterflyfish, also open water planktivores, and I am astounded at how much food they consume. I feed at least four times per day and they greedily munch down quite a bit at each feeding. I can't imagine them thriving on one or two meals per day.

I am just asking out of curiosity here as I have no experience with Anthias. I just assume they have similar diatary needs as the Pyramids since they are both open water feeders.

I have kept Bartletts, Olives, and Bicolors past the five year mark on twice a day feedings. I am also maintaining a shoal of Bimacs (3+ years) and a trio of Borbonius Anthias (3+ months) on the same regimen without any apparent problems.

No sort of acclimation period, 64Ivy, just twice a day from early on...?

It's been a while but I think I might have QT'd the Bartletts because they came in pretty small and therefore I also might've fed them 3X a day. Once they were brought over to the reeftank however, it's been twice a day. For all the other Anthias, it's been 2X from the beginning.

The common species will do just fine on a couple of feedings per day.
Once you get into the thinner bodied species multiple feedings will be needed.
