How do you guys run your carbon?

I was wondering how you guys here run your carbon? I have alot of room in my sump and was thinking of cool ideas to run carbon and such.

Ive heard many use phosphate reactors?

I put it in a filter bag and place it in a high flow area. Not as efficient as a canister or phosban reactor, but certainly easier to maintain and no additional electricity costs.
 
O sweet so I can just add it into my 100 micron filter sock?

How do phosban reactors work, will I need a pump?
 
yea i use a maxi400, also i got some ROWA in there, so more good to the filter! anyway, when you get one you'll see how it works, its pretty easy. But no not a filter sock, a filter BAG, completely different.
 
K did a super quick search on em on eBay.

Brand Name is Little fishies and another Phosban 150. Is that what your using? Im guessing it doesnt come with the pump?

yep thats the one, you also need some clear tubing about 3/4'' and a maxijet. then you're up and running.

what type of carbon yall runnin? Might as well get some this dude sells sells PHOSBAN, and diamon carbon<--forgot the name? with his phos reactors...
 
Currently I am running the Marineland black diamond premium activated carbon through my phosban reactors...I bought 3 tubs....after that I will end up using the carbon I purchased from a group buy awhile back.

how often do you guys do group buys for carbon and salt?

Is it posted here or do yall PM each other?

I heard-read looserkids(Brent) used to do the groupbuys for salt here in So Cal, whos doing it now?

Let me know on the next of either two, Ill be in fo sho!;)

Hey Sam,

I went in on the group buy when Brent (looserkids) had it awhile back. Since he is moving/or moved to Texas (I think) I am unsure of who would be handling it. I think Nicole was trying to get the info in case we needed to do another group buy for it. Not sure about the salt though. He might have done it, if so I missed that and would have loved to get into that group buy.

I got in on the group buy, it is coal based peletized and acid washed, very good stuff, I run it in an external filter I made.

sps_addict I was in on the group buy and have plenty of carbon if you want some. I am in Irvine. If that is not close to you post a thread that you looking for some carbon. I am sure there are others that have more then they need, as it came in 50 pound bags.

Hey laverda,

I was able to get into the group buy on the carbon as well ;) Although if Brent did do a salt group buy I missed that one. I still have about 48lbs of the carbon left, lol. Still trying to use up the Marine Land Carbon I had stashed away before continuing to using up the carbon from the group buy. Thanks for the offer though, I'll have to remember it when I run out :D
