how do you keep sand clean?

So just wondering how you guys do it. My sand looks kinda nasty right now, it has hair algae growing on it, and also red algae, and from this I have noticed my tank doesnt look as bright because the light doesnt reflect off the white sand cause its...well...not white. Any suggestions?

I have a bare minimal clean up crew, and my sand is kept pretty decent. Your algae problem may be caused by your water; have you tested it?

Well, flow is your friend. What do you have as far as circulation goes? Also, I use nassarius and ceriths snails for the sandbed. The do a good job with cleaning. What's your nitrate and phosphate levels reading?
