How do you keep your live sand so white???

I am new to this site but am wondering, when people reply, do they actually READ the other responses, or just read the question and make a lame 2 word response? On some other boards (not reef related) I would get booted for posting something that had already been covered, especially if I didnt explain WHY it was a good idea. Hmmmm.

I was the 7th person that responded. I'm not trying to get anyones feathers ruffled, its just when I get an email that someone responded to a thread, and I take my time to go see what was written, a 2 word answer that was already covered as being a bad idea just annoys me. Thats all.

Seriously though.. you can accomplish a white sand bed just as the picture shows. Your tank needs to be mature with some hungry conch's.

My tank is about 9 months old and the sand bed is always pearly white.
The best way I've found to keep the bed clean and clear is either to use flow, which can be a bit difficult due to sand storms and it takes a some working to get it right, or a pistol shrimp. My Tiger turns almost half of my sandbed daily during his building projects. Im not sure if other folks pistol shrimp do the same but thats a topic for another thread.
I have a fighting conch who spends most of its time either buried or cleaning the bottom portion of the glass.
My queen conch spends most of the time either on rocks or glass.
I also have an 8" pink and black cucumber whom I rarely see. How I cant find a giant pink and black turd is beyond me at times. It rarely leaves the rocky portion despite being placed on the sand.
Cerith snails do an excellent job both cleaning and tilling sand. I usually wake up in the morning to see their tracks through the sadbed.

To all the people with sand sifting stars, cucumbers, etc:
I have heard so many bad things about them eating everything and then starving to death, and then killing everything in the tank when they die. Is this true? If so, how do reassure yourself that these things won't take out all the nice things in your tank?

I believe the Atlantic brown does not put out toxins, i'v had him for over two years, when we had the hurricanes down here, i was without electric for six days he was almost dead, he was at the top of my tank almost floating and nothing was released, i think some of the other colors could be bad if that happends.
