How do you keep your live sand so white???

35 hermit crabs and good skimming is my secret. also anything that grow on the sand i will siphon it out, specially on areas were there no water flow wich is nice because everything acumulate in only one area and siphoning is easier

I use a bunch of crabs. Scarlets, blue legs and electric blue. Also snails, refuguim, skimming and flow.

I like the bleach idea best. In the final analysis it solves ALL of our problems. A bucket of bleach and we can all do a lot more with our time.

Tigertails are no problem for tanks. There are a few cukes that are safe.

Sea apples aren't one of them tho.

Nassarius are carrion eaters and will do nothing other than stirring it. If you got the guts you could try a cucumber.

I'd have to disagree that Nassarius snails will do nothing and that they only eat the flesh of dead fish.

Since adding them to my tank(nassarius vibex), they sure have cleaned up/turned over my sand bed. Also, they feed on any small food scraps that hit the ground that my fish dont find. Its incredible when I drop some Formula 2 pellets into my tank because all of a sudden 20-30 nassarius snails come popping out from under the sand, in a little parade, looking for the food that hits the ground.

Yeah those nassarius remind me of the night of the living dead. They come crawling up out of the sand like little zombies out of their graves.

if you go down by the reply you will see a link that says "SUBSCRIBE TO THREAD" then it will be in the button at the top that says "MY RC"

then you can turn off the email notification and still find the thread. its pretty simple.
