How do you kill Xenia?

Can someone please tell me how to kill the white pom pom xenia? I have scraped and toothbrushed and boiling watered the stuff and it won't die! It's totally out of control. Is there anything that eats it?

Sounds like a money making project if you ask me. They are animals, not weeds in your rose garden.... If they have taken over a rock, take the rock to an LFS, am certain they will find something to do with the rock. Put some rock in their path, and when they move to the new rock, take THAT rock to the LFS, and get another...........you can peel them off the rocks if you have the patience, but you are starting a new tank, nothing like having the hobby sorta pay for itself, at least for a while.

Agree, take advantage of a nice trade at a LFS or frag swap. Sure fire way to get rid of them is to actually want them. Then they seem impossible to keep. Kind of like coraline, everyone wants it until they have it.

No, all the rocks it has spread to have my other corals on it, it's horrible! I can't take them into the pet store.

I agree with you, they are the devils coral along with GSP! Make sure you cover the entire piece you are trying to eradicate with the putty & good luck to you.

If they are animals so are aiptasia but some things need controlled.

I know my LFS won't take Xenia, GSP or Kenya Trees for a trade anymore, only my SPS frags ever interest them.

True, but this is where knowing something about the critters you have in your tank, other than it is pretty, is worthwhile. Knowing how the Red Sea "white pom pom" Xenia propagates, is the key to controlling its spread. :)

Wow, how true Uncle, but we can barely stop people from trying to cycle their tank in 6 days let alone expecting them to research a coral purchase in advance.

Very true also.... I am not an activist by any means, but should hear me go off (offline) when I see a tank cycled in 6 days, and the first thing that goes in is an anemone.

But seriously, it was not so many years ago, that keeping these critters alive was a huge challenge, and now they propagate. Perhaps more than we would like at times, but none-the-less.

This is true sir & I am no enemy of advances in the hobby, but I am a "show me" first kind of guy before I change something that has worked for me for years, I applaud anyone who can & does advance our hobby with propogation & breeding for that matter, however you are correct sir, an anemone in a new tank is never going to succeed, so don't try it, your tank will still be there in 8 months to a year & your clown fish will host it, trust me, trust us!!!!!!!!!

Xenia hate peroxide take out your rock and use a brush to apply to the Xenia while keeping away from other corals on rock. rinse off rock and put back in tank they might take 2 coats but they will die off.

I am havin real trouble making my xenia survive in my tank. People says it likes dirty water. May I ask what your NO3 level is?
