How do you make kalkwasser?

How much pickling lime do you mix with 1 gallon of ro water and how much calcium and alkalinity is in that mixture? I plan on adding a certain amount to my ato and evap about a gallon of water per day. I will premix top off water in a brute trashcan based on how much calc and alk i use in a day.

Mix 2 teaspoons to a gallon and mix it up. This is full saturation unless vinagar is used, Have the pick up for your ATO off the bottom aound 1/2 inch. Don't mix it again until you add more water. I mix 13 gallons at a time. I have a 120 gallon reef with SPS and LPS. I don't have to dose anything else. There will come a time when your reef will need more Ca and ALK than the Kalk can supply. Monitor you pameters at least every other day for several weeks . If your rises above the level you want then only mix 1 tsp per gallon. I use a Tom's Aqulifter pump and a ATO from Bulk Reef Supply

If I premix lets say 20 gallons in a can and let it mix and settle is it ok to just scoop water off the top to add to my ato? And then mix new ato with kalkwasser when shes empty?

Yes. When your 20 gallon mixing container gets a layer of undissolved kalk at the bottom just add RO/DI water to the container and the undissolved kalk will be absorbed by the fresh water. You are still likely to get some kalk settling out in your tank's top off reservoir, so eventually you will need to either siphon it out or add fresh water to get it into solution. The easiest method is to just mix it in your tank's top off reservoir.

+1 mix up to 2 teaspoons per gallon, let is settle about 1 hour then you are ready to dose. I use a brute 30 gallon and when it get low i add a cup and top it off with RODI water. I dose every hour for about 4 min in the winter and 3 min in the summer to maintain level.

works great!
