how do you make larger water changes easier?

Sweet plan Yaktop...I guess you would need a seperate container of ready made saltwater to add to the "drip in" saltwater container....interesting idea.

no seperate container needed, just the container you need for the SW anyway.

Hello,

My closed loop overflows sit just about "65 gallons" under the edge of my tank... One of the overflows has a T conected to a ball valve that allows water to drain directly into the sewer... exactlay 65 gallons drains... (about 30secs) I then close that ball valve... and open the ball valve at my container (65 gallons) this returns into the sump in about (3minutes) almost 10% change is then over in less than 4 minutes and I am not wet LOL

You can see the drain valve on the right side in this old construction pic

Here you see the 65 gal replacement and refill valve on the Right

Thanks NexDog. This system has worked GREAT for me! It is nice having the extra water volume for more system stability, and more than once I have had to shut both barrels off and use the water from them for other purposes. It has been a system life saver in a couple situations!

I also like the fact that I can open the valve only part way to run slowly, and don't have to worry about temp or pH swings when the barrel is first changed over.
