how do you move a clam?

it's a 3" crocea. i put him high on the rocks and now it's attached. i'd prefer to have him on the sandbed. i've got 400 MH so light isn't an issue. problem is that the clam has this rubber like strand that is burrowed into the rock. he won't budge. how do unattach it?

Sounds like a job for a dremel. Like crimson156 said, cut the piece of rock off that it is attached to. I have heard of people cutting the byssal threads with a razor blade with mixed results. Personally, I wouldn't subject one of my own clams to that kind of torture.

I've always been able to get my clams to move by changing the condition their location is, such as I have shaded the area that they are at(just for a few days). after a few days it will detach on its own then you move it and it will reattach with almost no stress to it.

good luck

I have cut the threads off one particular clam twice with no probs. Out of the 10 clams I have, this is the 2nd fastest growing bud. It put on 2 new rings in 3 months. It's a slimer too!
