How do you protect the floor under your stand?

I am currently building a stand and wondering how you guys protect the floor under your stand. I was thinking of using a shower liner between the stand and the floor, but how would I make it aesthetically pleasing? Any thoughts?

I used strips of felt to keep the stand elevated so I can get airflow underneath to dry any potential spills.

Are you are trying to protect the floor from being damaged by the stand itself of from potential water spills? My stand is on carpet but to protect the carpet from spills I bought one of those blue plastic tarps from Home Depot. Then I cut it about 8" larger than the stand itself and stapled it to the inside of the stand. Any water that spills from the sump, reactors, etc. is caught by the plastic tarp.

both - i am putting the stand on laminate. i don't want the tank to sink into the laminate and ruin the floor... and i also don't want potential spills to seep through the laminate if i don't catch it quick enough. i like the idea of the tarp inside the stand, sounds like it works well!

I would not put the liner between the cabinet and the floor, sooner or later you are going to have a spill and water will get between the liner and the floor with no way to evaporate. I like posted above use small leveling feet (felt or neoprene) that lift the stand up 1/2" off the floor. If you have a spill you can use a towel or paper towel to wick up most of the water.

The liner is wrapped up the sides of the stand about 2-4in forming a "tub" no way for water to get under the liner...

I have hardwood floors so I took and used 3/4 in plywood I stained it to match floor then sealed it. on carpet we did the same but painted the wood flat black exterior enamel. the boards extend about a foot beyond the stand except the one in my pic. sump wont fit under tank so put it to the side. we have done this with all eleven tanks

Fexible pvc shower pan liner is sold at Lowes and HD. It makes a waterproof 'tub' in the bottom of the stand. I also installed a bulkhead at the end and ran a pvc pipe through the wall and out of the house. It has saved me a couple of times with small leaks, like an external pump that leaked. It also makes working in the sump and refugium much easier as I don't have to worry about drips and minor splashing when I clean the skimmer, pull filter socks or harvest Chaeto.

I am a contractor and have seen/repaired many problem floors. My advice is not to put anything between your floor and stand. All you are asking for is discolored flooring or mold. Almost any protective covering will become welded to the floor over time and it will end up looking worse than having nothing at all if you decide to move things. Seen it happen so many times under heavy furniture, etc. Best thing is to contain the water INSIDE your stand. Any water spills outside your tank...just mop it up with a towel. Also, if possible, provide something in your design to allow airflow under your stand even the smallest amount will greatly preserve things.

I have a grey waterproof mat I bought at lowes. It looks like a puzzle piece. you can make it the size you need. I lined the inside of the stand with it also. Water just sits on top until you dry it up and its also kills any vibrations and noise. great stuff.

Unless your stand is elevated on legs, then inevitably you will be screwed. Unless you are lucky enough to not ever spill.
Water will always get under whatever u put down so it's a no win situation. Just have extra laminate for after the tank is gone

I thought about this and am going to put some 2X6 on the floor to spread out the weight a little. Not really worried about water on the floor cause there is just no way to avoid spill when working on the tank. I think the key is to have a dry rug around all the time.

I think this is what I was looking for. Something that can catch the water but also isn't really visible with doors covering it all. Thanks!
