How do you QT new fish?

This is just an informal poll. I am lookig at a couple of fish from petco and wanted to know how everyone QT'd. I ABSOLUTELY don't trust the fish from there to be free from surprises but I can't find neon gobies anywhere else. I plan on doing a hyposalinity tank around 1.19 or so, but also wanted to know if there is a non copper based medication anybody liked. BTW I plan on the little buggers being treated for at least 2 weeks.

I purchased a neon goby from petco a while back, before he was violently eaten he was doing very well. He used to clean my arms when I was working on my tank, how cute is that. Just FYI, neon gobies have very short life spans, may want to pick up 3 or 4 and hope they have babies. but then again, will they have enough food sources?

Thats why I want to get them there. The big drawback however is they use a common sump and I've seen othr fish with advanced stages of ich. Btw, every fish i picked up at Pet-Vet's sale have died from parasites. I got a Hippo tang and it didn't last 3 days. The corals are fine, but I'm never buying fish there again.

My mother bought 3 or 4 fish from pet-vet several months back and they all died within a week. I had that problem with alot of freshwater fish I purchased from them.
As for the gobies, aren't they one of those fishies that resists ich better than most? sortof like the mandarin dragonettes do? maybe? anybody else have thoughts on that?

Neon gobies are a cleaner fish and that may have something to do with it. The reason I would like some is they set up cleaning stations like cleaner shrimp and fish will line up and take their turn. However, unlike cleaner shrimp my coralbandeds won't make a meal out of them!
