ton Z

Hmmm... that's how I've always said it too, but seeing as how I lived in Germany for 4 years, I figured the correct way was more like "Toonzie".

I think we need a pronunciation guide somewhere on RC. :) I know we all butcher words like acropora, echino, cheato etc.

Much like "Porche" is pronounced "POOR-shah". Not that I'll ever drive one, though.

the Germans with that name (or the car) say it with a different emphasis, it's PORSH-uh

You have to say the ah with your lips in sort of an oval and the sound comes from the back of your throat. It is not really an ah sound, its more like uh. I can't really describe it, it is hard for Americans to say. My Mother's name is Inge. It is pronounced Ing-uh. Most people call her Inga. She quit correcting them about forty years ago.

Yeh, you're right. It's almost as difficult to pronounce Arabic in typing as it is Deutsch.
Das ist immer eine grosse schade; aber sie muchte verstein, das is leben.
(Sorry about the spelling; its been a few years since my days in the Hilden Stadt gymnasium)
