How do you tell the difference?

How can you tell the difference between a sunburst anemone and a rainbow anemone?

I bought some anemones as sunburst but now am being told they are rainbows?

Besides the price, how can you tell?

My guess would be whatever "designer" name the seller wants to call it. They are all E. Quadricolor

Exactly. All those names, IMO, are meaningless. If you like the color be happy with it, regardless with whatever made up name was given to it.

If you wanna argue about it, I believe any anemone with 3+ colors is considered a "rainbow" anemone, including the "sunburst" anemone. But I agree with the previous posts - the names are made up. Buy it for the look you want, not the name.

Yeah, thats the problem I've run into. I bought them, and paid a premium for them, as sunbursts (Green, orange, bright green), but am now being told they are rainbows.

Basically, I used them as a partial trade in a deal with another reefer. Now he is saying they are rainbows instead of sunbursts and is claiming their value is only half.

I was just wondering if there is a way to tell for sure. Guess I didn't realize that even nems get the "designer" tags like zoas do. Always thought it was an actual species type name. My fault for being ignorant about it. Sadly, I thought common names were gbta, rbta, rainbow and sunburst...sigh..

From my experience, "sunburst" usually includes yellow, but this is not written in stone.

Go to ebay. Search for "anemone". Weep for humanity. :)

Honestly though, sorry you got hosed there.

Just the part about it being a "not written in stone" type of thing makes it frustrating for me. Be easier if it was a: "if its got a square on the bottom of its third arm then its a..." type of deal. Course, I can't tell the diference between a wow maui boom bowi zoa and a tickle me elmo nebula zoa either...sigh..I suck...

Don't beat yourself up. The longer you're in it, the more you'll realize how little you know, and realize how little everyone else knows too. If these things came with a manual, it would make life easier! If you like your anemone, you've done good!

Add to it that when a new color variety comes in several people may give their own name to the same color variety.

IMO a sunburst should have yellow tips to the tentacles but, as is so often the case, sellers don't always seem to agree with me!

Sunburts anemoen looks like the sun ooo they are col please get one and show me itRainbow anemones are shiny and pertty and rainow but its easy to tell the difference youll know.
