How do you wash your filter sock?

I ran mine in the washing machine with a little bleach with 2 rinse cycles, then air dry before putting any back in the tank.

I use diy socks too, I've found they can be used for several months. I have to pay for laundry in my apartment building so I do them in the sink. I rinse them inside out with hot water and then store with a little bleach water in a container with a good lid so they don't grow bacteria (I use an old plastic coffee container). Once they're all dirty I soak them in 10% bleach water for a couple hours and then scrub vigorously in a few rounds of hot water. For the last round I add a dose of prime. All done with tap water.

The bleach works really fast to break down organics and most of the cleaning is from agitating the socks.

There has been many posts on this in the past. There was even a study about the best way to clean them.

I have about 10 of them and wait until 7 or 8 are dirty. They I run them through the washing machine with a cup of Vinegar. I run it on hot and run it twice. Then I hang them up for 48 hours and use them for the next month and do it again.

Vinegar, eh? I don't like using bleach for much of anything and vinegar seems like a great alternative. Do you have any sort of links where this has been discussed further?

Hi! I use a two 200 micron filter socs on my Innovative Marine 80 gallon....I just toss them into the washing machine....I have four of them and rotate them....I have to wash them and put clean ones in once sometimes twice a week. When they start to look frayed it is probably time to buy a brand new set.

Take them out into the backyard, power wash, then leave in a bleach/water solution for a week. After a week, take them out, wash, and put in a bucket with a lot prime/dechlor added. We have 3 pairs of socks, 2 in the tank, 2 in the bucket of bleach/water, and 2 more drying.
Kremis. What is prime/dechlor? (Sorry about my bad English)
