How do Zoos/Public Aquariums QT

I was wondering if anybody knew the procedure that public aquariums and zoos use to treat their new fish/coral/inverts? I've been unable to find the information through google.

Thanks

Thanks, for the information.

Does anybody know if there are any documents that state their entire QT process. What meds they use, how they check for disease, duration of treatment/overall QT time?

Remember that because of the sheer volume of water these facilities have; protozoan parasites are not nearly the killers they are in our tiny tanks. That's why ich (et al) are basically harmless in the oceans. I do know some Public Aquaria use huge UVs BETWEEN tanks to keep parasites from spreading tank to tank. This doesn't eliminate them, just helps control them. Many wholesalers and LFS do the same thing. Call one of the big public facilities; I'll bet someone will talk to you. Prior to Katrina, I had a guy at Aquarium of the Americas in N.O. that I called often. Make sure its a public facility, private aquariums or breeders won't tell you squat....proprietary information.

When I did the behind the scenes tours at the Long Beach aquarium they had all sorts of QT's going, from single giant emperor angels, to large vats of anthias. No clue on the meds though...

The PA at MOA uses copper, other than that they won't sy. Minnesota Zoo runs 3 month minimum quarantine on everything from an anemone to a shark, wide range and more meds than we hobbyists have access too. They have the U of M students and professor's there often, diagnosing and treating.
