How does FrogSpawn Grow?

I've been trying to find how FrogSpawn grows.

What I mean by that is where do new polyps start? Will new polyps start in close proximity to the 2 current polyps or do I need to leave the skeleton exposed so new polyps start.

The frogspawn I bought has 2 heads and skeleton "branch" from where it was fragged.

I currently have the frogspawn buried in the sand up to the lowest polyp. It seems happy, it's full and in medium flow.

I was wondering if new polyps would be prevented from forming if I have it to far in the sand.

short answer - yes - new buds form off the skeleton so if it is buried in the sand it will block growth.

Frogspawn, as well as other branching Euphyllids grow upwards and outwards from existing polyps. Polyps will eventually widen with growth, and split apart to increase in number. Sometimes very small polyps will bud off of tissue at the base of existing, full-size polyps. As long as your colonies are not buried to a point where the tissue around the base of their skeleton is touching sand, you should be ok.

Be wary of any cyano or dino growth on the sand bed which could creep up the coral - the tissue shouldn't get covered up in any way (preserves gas exchange).

^ that pretty much covers it. They grow up on outwards heads splitting as the get larger. I have watched my frog spawn go from 2 small heads to 4 large heads.

I've got a large frogspawn that I've fragged a couple of times and it buds down in the branch part in addition to splitting heads.

I have witnessed growth both ways. the heads themselves split and small ones pop up on the sides of the stalks. the latter were very TINY and really took forever to get to size.
