How does green star polyps grow?

I have a large piece of green star polyps. I've had it for about 3 months. I've noticed that there is areas of what looks like white bone starting to poke out. Tonight I looked at it after the lights went out, and it looks like there are several of these new ridges. This means its growing right?

yep...and if conditions are right it will keep growing like frikken crazy. I'm assumung those ridges are outside of its normal size of course

Yeah the ridges are growing out and away from the main rock they are on. Can I somehow cut those new ridges off and start a new colony?
