I put it in my tank and it opened up within minutes. Does it look healthy? I know I am supposed to research and then buy...

Nice, what's it look like from the top looking down.
I never realized how much different they looked from the surface compared to looking through the front glass, until someone pointed this out.

Good point, from that angle its much more iridescent. Hopefully my t5's are enough for this to be at the bottom of the tank.

That clam looks ill... you should give it to me :)

Just Kidding, it looks fine. You can never tell how long clams will make it. Some last for many many years and some are gone in a week. Good luck with your new addition.

I was at ITZME's house a few months back and he put something in the water to feed the clams, they really responded the second it hit the tank. Any idea what it was?

clamsdirect just opened their web site again for business. their clams are breathtaking but most of the good ones are already sold

I'm not sure but I think when its gaping open its stressed..

Pictures can be deceiving. I would agree that it does look a little more gaping than mine. I would be more concerned if the mantle was not extending or was discolored. Niether seems to be the case. I love my T. Maxima. I keep him under T5's high in the tank on rock.

They sell EXTREMELY fast... which makes it very hard to do a group buy in order to get free shipping.

True... it's probably just settling in though. I've noticed ALL mine have done that initially, whether they end up surviving or not.

I would also recommend placing a flat rock under the clam, as Crocea's are rock dwelling clams, and it will also help protect the clams vulnerable underside.
