How far will you go?

I wanted to make a thread to see how far people are willing to drive to go to a good LFS?

Personally i live in Dothan AL and I have traveled 100 miles one way to go to Tallahassee, FL. 82 miles one way to Panama City, FL. And finally 103 miles one way to Montgomery, AL.

Let me hear yours!

It isn't a choice around here. The nearest LFS [that has anything to do with marine] is 150 miles away. Don't make it there all that often, and when do family makes it a day long shopping thing going to places to look at things can't normally. I live in a "small" (in Wyoming standards its big, but on the grand scale small) town so shopping opportunities for most things is pretty limited.

Needless to say anymore though most of my stuff comes from online as shipping is cheaper than gas .

Hey my girlfriends mom lives in dothan, she is actually flying up there tomorrow morning to see her and be there for her little sisters graduation. And the last time i was there we went to bills pet shop, he has a small selection of saltwater stuff, pretty good freshwater stuff.

Hmmmm Lets see:

When I went to Spain Valencia, I modified my flight schedule to come back from Barcelona where I know a great LFS. had to spend an additional night there just to pick up some corals.

In the states drove 2 times from Cleveland Ohio to Salty Critter which was aroudn 1hour 20 min drive. First time was to book my corals upon arrival and following time was to pick things up just before I went to airport. Corals made it through close to 24 hours trip and 2 airports....

Holland and Germany takes me around 40 min to LFS and have to go there twice, once upon arrival to pick things up and directly before flying out or night before to pick things up.

Dubai: have to drive around 1-2 hours to chose and then pick up corals or fish in 2-3 LFS and then have to drive for around 30 min to get a health certificate to be able to fly out with those and then directly to airport (close from healthcare certificate) if not flying second morning..

Switzerland a 45-60 min drive again have to do it twice....

Distance and time are no problem if its a worth seeing LFS or public display.

Yeah i know what you mean, my aunt lives in Thayne, and its like out in the middle of nowhere, and nothing even close to a pet store near her.

I've driven down to Seattle on occation... about 1oo miles one way, but usually make a day of it.

High Tide Aquarium in Tallahassee? Fortunate I live in Tally. HT are good people and their prices are very reasonable. What shops are in PC and Montgomery and how do these compare to HT?

So far i think in agreement, we are all willing to go over a 100 miles one way to find a good LFS.

As for Bill's Pet Shop, i went in there the other day and all his saltwater fish were covered in ick no lie. I felt bad for this Kole Tang, he was so beautiful but alas had ick.

Back to the thread anyone go over 100 miles intentionally to get to a store without flying haha.

Ya i enjoyed high tide the one in PC is called Suncoast Aquariums. They have a decent selection of corals, inverts, and fish and a knowledgable staff. Aquarium Fantasies is in montgomery they are exclusively saltwater and have the biggest selection of any store so far that i have been to.

I'm planning a 300 mile trip to Minneapolis sometime this Summer to check out LFS. We make a vacation of it. Plus it'll be the first time checking out the LFSes there.

I forgot to add that i am orignally from Jacksonville, FL it is about 350 miles from where i live now.

I have visited there to see the LFS but have not brought anything back yet lol.

How far will you go?

Myself and a few local "fish friends" used to regularly drive about 120 miles from Wilmington to Raleigh and make a day of hitting up 4 or 5 stores in the area, or we could go an hour south and hit one good store in north Myrtle beach. Still make the trips occasionally but we just had something open up in town.

Oh man, bills pet shop has gone downhill i suppose. It was a pretty decent pet store when i saw it last, about 2 years ago.

I drive 150 miles, one way, to Penscola, Fl from Dothan everytime I need someting. I don't consider the store in Montgomey a good store, it's ok but it's dirty and the water scares me. Bill's is just sad they need to get out of their chair and clean some tanks.

Last Saturday We did a theater show then a lfs in Lancaster. PA it was worth the trip, i was overwhelmed and not able to get through the entire store. My wife was sick in the car so time was short, she did let me stop:spin1: the fish room was really awesome. everything was separated into group. ppl there were knowledgeable. I drove 138 each way for a total of 6 hours, we got lost or another term explored the are for an hour. We are from Atlantic city. I would deffinittly go they again.
