Hi friends,

If you wanted to light a 30 in x 24 in x 16 in tank for full blown sps, which mh/t5 combo will you use?

I have been searching for one and could find

Aquamedic iceanlight - 24 in - 1 x 250W and 2 t5 . Mainly because I think this will give me the option to run a radium 20 k 250 W and supplement it with some ATI Aquablue/Coral Blue.

Will this fixture be able to run a Radium 20K ?

The other option will be to get a retrofit kit with Aquamedic Reeflex cube and Lumen max Elite reflector and a Radium 20 K .

Also share your thoughts and suggestions if any..

I had 3 Aqua Medic MH fixtures over the years. I had a fan burn out on one, I had more than a few MH bulb sockets break down due to heat on all 3 fixtures and I even had 2 t5 sockets break. I didn't use any of them more than 3 years. Aqua Medic was pretty good about parts and service, but they do charge for those parts and you pay through the nose.

I still have their skimmer and like it alot, but I wouldn't buy another MH fixture from them. BTW, the new 'cube' ballasts worked GREAT for me.

The only way to run a Radium with the AquaMedic is if you go to 150 watts, all of the AM fixtures use DE bulbs, and the only Radium in DE is the 150 watt. The 250 watt Radium is a Mogul base bulb. The Cube ballast is second to none and the rest of the fixture is competent but not super high quality. FWIW the AM with the 150 watt and T5's would be more than enough light.

The retro kit will allow you to use the 250 Radium.

Thanks guys for the inputs. Now I see that the fixture by itself cannot run a SE bulb .. Damn it .. how did I miss it?

I think either I shall go custom retrokit or go with Hamilton Belize..
