<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=13425154#post13425154 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by Randy Holmes-Farley have had issues with ocellaris in haddons.
Skin damage. The sting was just a bit too much and they developed scarring beyond what would be viewed as a melanistic response. The ocellaris did darken up, but fins were damaged, etc.
fwiw: It is the monster in my gallery that started out green yellow hosting ocellaris, scrapped that for a colony of black polymnus, and then moved it to the 300g hosting nigripes and color shifted more blue under 20K. Only the ocellaris had issues when calling it home, the other species showed no ill effects.
Edit: figured I would add the pic's instead of sending folks on a goose chase
Boy, I hope Randy can get a snapshot of the fourstripe in the store, because it looks so cool. Very different from seeing a B+W clown in one. Fourstripes don't normaly go in anemones, do they? I thought they hosted in table acros.
Anyway, I'm getting the thread off topic. Good luck with the anemone today, Randy.
Thanks. I did decide to go for it, and it is having tank water dripped in to raise the sg now. I didn't take any photos in the store, sorry. I'm cautiously optimistic.
Thanks to everyone for their advice, both in this thread and in emails. It was very useful for me as a novice carpet buyer to know what to look for and what to do. I'll probably start another thread tomorrow with updates on how it is doing.
By the way, anyone know if green star polyps will sting a hadonni? I couldn't care less about the polyps, but where I planned to put it, it might expand enough to touch the polyps.
That is a good question. I took all of the GSP out of my tank -- of other reasons. But, in the past when I had a BTA and GSP together, the BTA won, so I don't see the Haddoni being too bothered by them, but I have been wrong before.
On a related note, for a while my clam ( crocea ) and my Haddoni were touching, and neither one was bothered.
If you still would like to have the Haddoni host the Ocellaris, you could try putting the coral that is currently hosting the clowns right next to the Haddoni.
I have done that with my clowns but it was a frogspawn that was hosting.
I had a mag and a haddoni in a 60 gallon cube with two clowns. When the mag died (cry) the clowns immediately went into the carpet and all has been well.
