How hot is to hot

You want to try and stay below 82 for an extended time and when you get over 84, you may start to have issues.

My "chiller" is a 10" variable speed fan sitting directly over my sump. Evaporative cooling is very pwerful but does create significant water evaporation so you need to insure you keep up water levels.

Well I don't have the luxury of a Chiller, So I use fans like DR.B mentions....Evaporation is the name of the game for low budget cooling...I use one I got at walmart...its a 2 speed with adjustable head on it...Name escapes me....but works good...when it gets real warm, I have a window AC unit I put in the room my tank is in and set for about 75 degrees and it seems to keep the heat at bay....all part of the fun with running MH and and VHO...woohoo!

I keep my tank between 80-82 in the summer. 84 is warm but not too warm in my opinion. Anything over 86 is bad. I would try to keep it 84 or less...

I try to my temps below 84 during the hotter months I install a window unit air conditioner about 12 btu and direct straight towards the tank keeps the tank about 76 , the room stays about 76 or tad less depending on the heat of the day
