How I am winning against cyano.

Hi everyone,I am going to share how I am beating cyano and a lot (and i mean alot) of factors that helped me either greatly or a little. First off, FLOW, the moment i added another powerhead in that the cyano on the rocks, zoa colony and glass started peeling off, allowing for me to siphon them out easily. Water changes, I did about 8 to 10 water changes in 2 weeks which removed quite a lot of cyano. Now the critters that helped me. The ones who provided great help: Sea cucumber for clearing the cyano on sand, nassarius snail for clean up, dwarf tip hermits helped with cyano in small gaps, the hitchhikers on my rocks with clean up etc. Helped a little: pencil urchin is new and his spikes helped tear off some cyano while he eats a few patches. Trochus snail cleared the zoa of cyano but died in few days. And special thanks to (you won't believe me but) The eunicid worms of the rocks, I have 4 eunicids in my tank and once I caught 1 at night grabbing small patches of cyano off the sand and eating the cyano on the glass, not sure if it really ate it but it did help. Overall, flow and water changes helped the most but there are always some critters that will help with any algae or cyano problem. Now my tank is about 70% free of cyano and I am going to try and remove the ones trying to grow back using my methods of cyano removing.

I have been using it for last 3 years. I need to use it twice a year on average.
Never had any ill effects.
I dial down my skimmer to minimum, that helps with oxygenation of tank without skimming.
Works like a charm!

Explore the use of algae turf scrubbers to manage nutrient export and it will disappear. Not a short term solution but very effective filtration seems to be the only thing that keeps the red crap in check long term. Hitting it with agent orange will reduce the volume short term but better water is the most effective for cyano control and 'bout every other thing that no good for our system. Scrubbers are inexpensive and easy to maintain if integrated into your system properly. My opinion anyway
