How I helped my bleached Yuma

Im a newbie but I thought I'd share my experience...who knows...

So I accedently bought a yuma in april (09), I thought at the time they were easy to keep like any other mushroom. It was probably slightly bleached at the time...anyway over time it expelled the Zooxanthella on several occasions. I finally moved it to a back corner where it wasnt getting much light and it slowly brought back some color...not much though. My real break through came with my 10000 K light went out. It probably took me two weekds to get a replacement. During that time it was exposed to only Actinic lighting. When I got my new light bulb and turn my tank back on I noticed that my Yuma had improved significatly in a short period of time.

Just an FYI

anybody else seen this?

Interesting, I'm sure the same thing can be replicated by moving it into any shaded area in the tank. How did the rest of your corals adapt to being with only actinic?

Something like that happened to me but wasnt bleach.. I brought my yuma home and it was too cold in the car (65-70), idk what else might be a factor but my yuma shrunk and their original color disappeared and they begins to glow neon green.... Its been 3 weeks now and its slowly getting their color back.

...Fine, I guess. I didnt notice anything bad.

what kind of 10k light are you running and what kind of actinic.

These were the bulbs that came with the tank...is it coral life??

As a follow up it is doing great!

Just a small update...the yuma has regressed a little so I put the sucker under more shade. Not sure why it regressed but we will see if it recovers...I have had it since april 09

I've had a couple of bleached yuma frags thanks to my collector urchin. He'd take them for a ride, lose them under rockwork somewhere & then reappear with a white frag a month or two later.

This works for me: put it in a shady but accessible spot, & spot feed every 2nd day to help it recover faster. All my bleached ones have eventually regained full colour like this.

good luck!
