How important are marine plants?
What kind of plants are best to get so they will help your tank?

Setting a tank up with marine plants is not an absolut necessity for a sucessfull tank. However, they can be quite usefull and enjoyable as well. In short, plants will utilize fish waste (ammonia and phosphates) as a food source and thereby help lower those levels in your aquarium. During the light period they also utilize CO2 and give off O2. Some people will take advantage of that and remote plumb a tank of plants and light opposite to the main tank to help stabilize pH fluctions that occur day to night.

Is just that im very confuse cause my tank has ammonia(it had ammonia on sunday, don't know about now)and I don't know what caused it.I was thinking I don't have much live rock or much plants etc.
It's a 10 gallon tank with about 7 lbs of live rock
1 emerald
7 hermits
1 cerith snail
and 2 brittle starts that I don't really count since I never see them.lol

How often and how much do you feed the tank? What brand test kit? If you can, see if you can borrow or bring a water samply to someone to test with a different kit to verify if yours is accurate. What kind of filtration and circulation do you have going on?

7 lbs should be plenty of LR in a 10, so I think it's likely the ammonia problems are due to something else, that's why all the questions. ;)

I don't mind how many questions you ask.:)

Well, someone else tested the water with the Fasteskit and he said ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate were all undetectable.:D
Im not sure what the other test kit was where ammonia showed up.

Also I bought a devil damsel on sunday september 26,and today october 2 the fish is still alive.

Is fastestkit an accurate test kit?

The Fastest is usually pretty accurate if the reagants are still in date ;) Some kits are less than accurate, and some reagants are more prone to going bad. I suspect your ammonia problem was likely a problem with an inaccurate or out of date kit ;)

billsreef,I've got another question, are emerald crabs reef safe?
I saw mine picking at my pom pom xenia today.
And also he was eating my halimeda plant(looks like he will eat anything)

That's a trick question. There are some look alike emeralds that can be trouble. Also the true emeralds can sometimes eat things other than algaes if they get hungry enough or large enough. The halimeda is an algae, so I would expect it to be on the menu ;)

This is how mine looks.

Do you think the Xenia could die if he picks at it?

Nice pic :D

looks like a proper emerald, if the tips of the claws are flattened that will clinch the ID ;)

If the Xenia has been growing well, it can probably stand a little grazing. Heck that stuff has been known to be such a weed that you might be lucky to have something to keep it in check ;)

I barely got it yesterday so I think it's very cool.lol(THE XENIA)
Yeah the tip of the claws are flattened.

I tried to get the clearest picture.:D

What kind of camera are you using? I just can't get good pics like that with my digital. Got to break out the film camera with the macro gear and do it the hard way
