i am transferring...no, i have finished transferring all my inhabs from my garage tank into my new office tank...all but the ^&%&^@%$ rose nem. he is on a very large rock that i can not put in the office tank.

i have been blowing a modded tunze 6025 on him for like a week and all keeps doing is moving to different parts of the rock. i am literally going around in circles with it.

i dont want to pick at its foot to get him off as i may damage him...but if anyone has tips on how to do this as with as little damage as possible...that would be great.

IF the stupid thing was in the tank side, i could literally just scrape him off carefully and be finished...

A couple of suggestions...take the rock out of the water and give it a tap or two with a hammer near where the anemone is. That usually causes an instant release. Another thing to try is placing one of those vibrating razors (blade removed) near/against it's foot. Last resort would be to gently pry the foot up with your fingernail until it releases.

ice is he best trick. If that doesnt work you can hold the rock the is on and keep the anemone partially out of the water and it should detach after a while. Avoid prying it off the rock as you can easily tear the food which can be pretty serious and hard for it to recover.

whew! got it off the honking huge rock but wasnt easy!

i tried the ice method with no success and finally had to yank the rock out of the tank which wasnt easy.

i then suspended the nem upside down partially in a bucket of water with its foot just poking out of the surface. as the foot started letting go...i would baste out water so the foot was always out of water.

tip: it seemed this method was pretty atraumatic for the nem... but start early. after a long day i was determined to get the bugger off at 10 pm. it finally fully detached at 1:30 am and i had to drive over to my office, acclimate him, release him, watch him a little and got home in bed by 3 am. not a fun day. it was like the night i caught my sps eating crab. i'll tell that story another day!!!

it hid for the first day (as expected) but on the second day...it fully opened and the two orange skunks took another day for them to see it. they are now hosting quite happily. the nem is exactly where i would love it to be. i hope he doesnt move around and annoy the ten clams i have in there.
