I kind of new to SPS but how long before the color come back after a brown out ? I had a crash where my water parm. were way off. I have since corrected it but how long before colors return? And anyone knows why the corals turn brown?

Why do corals turn brown? There can be many reasons. Bulbs shifting kelvins and losing par. High DOC's. High phosphate. Putting a low light acro in high light causing them to throw their natural colors to adapt and replacing with brown. And as you experienced bad water parameters. More often than not there is more than one factor and you will have to play detective. As far as how long it takes for them to color up, if you stay consistent about meeting their needs the sooner they will color back up. It may very well take months so try being patient. ;)

It could be a few months before it goes from brown to a brownish-greenish color and then slowly to whatever color it was supposed to be.

Wayland, corals can recover from brown out anywhere from two weeks to two or more months depending on the type of corals and type of stress, if its is a frag then you can tell about the speed of the recovery at the base of the coral where it is encrusting, thats the first spot to see any color and the second place is at the tip where the new growth is coming out(this is generally slower). If you are getting new growth at the base and the tips then the corals are well on their way to recovery and color back up in about 2 weeks as long as they are not stressing out by other suddent changes in your tank. This is the experience that I got from my tank, your tank can be different so the recovery time could varied from tank to tank.

O.K. that makes sense since I had a arco that has been brown for a long time but it changed to a green after I moved it away for the light.
Thanks
