OK.. so today i was doing a water change and at some point the larger clown jumped out.. 5 hours after I was finished we realized the fish was missing.. we started looking through the toys and bins on the floor around the tank (10 G bow front) and I found the fish.. when i picked her up she twitched so I threw her back in the tank...wasn't sure if she would survive but now 4 hours later she is swimming around and seems fine...:celeb3:

Has anyone ever herd of this happening before..?

Is there any information available on how long they should survive out of water...?

This seemed pretty extreme to me...

Thought Id share...

I owned a pet shop for years and there would be times things got out! I have seen many fish that were dry to the touch and rigid come back. With eels and freshwater fish, there often are skin issues after- but marine fish often just seem normal with no ill effect apparent. I remember on time someone sent us some toads- and they were delayed in the heat. These things were like potato chips- I wrapped them in damp towels and put them in a dish of water- and we had toads!

Oh and in answer to your question- no one knows. First there are too many variables- second we don`t know when a fish has jumped out-if we did we would imediatly return it to the water.

This happened to me this week. My male clownfish jumped out of the tank, I've put too much topoff water in it. When I realized he was missing, I found him in the dust of the floor behind the tank.

He was looking dry, but in my fingers he started to move hit tail so I put it immediately in the tank without cleaning it. There's was a LOT of dust on him... The day after he was swimming normally... Just a little scratch on the head on one side. Can't tell how much time we was out of water, but was probably something near 10-30 mins. He was so dry...
