how long can a zoa stay closed

Long story short--- Had severalhundred zoas in my nano- different types- most started from frags.

Ran into some light problems- time to replace bulbs - ordered new ones- recieved the wrong ones twice--- new ones finally came- whole process seemed to take forever- probally was only 3 weeks or so.

Everything in my tank seemed to still be doing ok.

March 15th 2007 we moved across town. My DH insisted on picking my tank up with half of the water in it- all sand, livestock, rock ,you name it--- I am sure that all of you are shocked to hear that about the time he made it to the driveway my tank busted. Well it has been over 3 months and I know I still have about $1,000 in my old driveway that I will never get back.

Of the stuff I was able to save- everything is doing wonderful- except a blasto colony and my zoas. I do not have a single zoa open. I still see several dozen bumps - (I know there should be hundreds, but I don't even want to think about that) I just don't know what they are doing- are they slowly dying- just torturing me or what???

Sorry about your tank and the $$$$$$$$ lost but a for your zoa's i think your SOL
When I was in the Army my wife did the same thing with a 80g zoa tank and i lost all most all my zoa's
SORRY and good luck

if they are not mush or turning into mush then there still is a chance. Your clean up crew will let you know they are dead. Good flow and light will help as well as keeping everything stable. Just out of curiosity have you dipped them for predators? good luck!

i had a frag closed for over a month. they are now starting to open, even though they are a different color. don't give up on them!

My PPE closed for about a month, no real explanation, I moved them to my nano upstairs under MH. they opened back up and are now BPE. I'm sure they'll color back up though.

I will go ahead and dip them- I haven't dipped them yet because I have not added anything new to my tank in probally 9 months- but I will take them out and dip them- I have the stuff, so it won't take but a second.

They are not mush- but they really don't even look like they are trying to peek out- I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I figure that nothing can hurt the poor guys at this point.

I've had some brown/pink/orange ones that were closed for several months.

When they finally opened again recently, they didn't really have any color at all. The coral survived, me thinks, but the symbiotic algae did not.

Found a few pics.

Here's what they used to look like (~April)

Then, closed for a long time.

those are very nice-- maybe mine will pull through.... If not, I know where I got most of them from... but ouch--- the $$$

they are actually starting to open!!!!

I began dosing with A & B every day and did 2 water changes- I really do not think I did anything else, but they are starting to open up. On the same token I also have 3 small blasto polyps showing some good signs-- I am going to say it is the A - B that is helping. I never really thought that stuff mattered, but my corals were always in good health before (so I really didn't know any better). I am sure I will not have all of my zoas back, but I am thankful that some are pulling through!!!!
