Anyone have palys close for a month or longer and still live? I think ine are opening again but I don't want to get my hopes up!

Mine were closed about that time (after getting a piece of live rock) after a long stable time in the tank and doing a water change or so, they just decided to open back up...

I have had leathers closed for 3+ months..

Ive had some closed for 6 weeks after a temperature shock... one day they just opened back up. Stable conditions will bring them back... dont give up hope

Hi Sandra:
Well, I'll talk about zoanthids, once it's hard to tell what would be "palys" for some people. Many times they actually have a Zoanthus sp. and they call "paly" because everybody else call them "palys". Not a big deal...

I had some Zoanthus sp. closed for more than 8 months after a partial bleaching event due to high temperature!!!
Today the colony is growing and the colors are back.
The "normal" closing of polyps here is like 3 days max, when there is "nothing to blame on".
When we have introduced polyps they stay closed for like 24 hours, most times.
Some of them open in minutes after introduced...
So it will vary a lot. But they can stay alive and close for many months!!
Stability, yes...

Grandis.

I don't worry about closed polyps, just dead ones. As long as they are closed, there's a chance they will come back.

i had 2 frags close up on me about 2-3months ago, one a PE and the other a blue hornet. i moved them to my new tank about 2 weeks ago and they're starting to reopen.
