How long can they hide under the sand and still survive?

Two days ago I had the morning off and took the time to rearrange my rockwork to a permanent position.
It freaked my Yellow Coris Wrasse out and he went under the sand. Granted I dont look while sleeping, but he has not been out once in those two days as far as I can tell.

How long can they survive under the sand?

Should I go netting for a dead and buried fish if I dont see him today/tonight?

My formossa wrasse spent two weeks under the sand when i first got him and still now he will go days without coming out.Don't worry about it.He will come out when he is ready.

yeh I bought a tank from a guy a few years back and it hadnt been neglected much so he had spent some time with it, when we took it down we found one in it and he said he thought it was gone he had not seen it for two months.

They can definitely breathe or they would die. I have had wrasses disappear for weeks. The thing to keep in mind is just because you don't see them doesn't mean they never come out. Generally with burrowing wrasses as long as they aren't on the floor or floating you can assume they are still alive.
