How Long can

I have an IM 40, mixed reef. Was wondering how long can my tank can go without power? I need to do some home repairs and need to turn off power.

Probably safely for a few hours. Beyond that, you'll need water movement at a minimum - a cheap battery-operated bubbler can take care of that.

You're in AZ, so depending upon the temp in the house, cooling may become an issue, especially if your outage is 8-10 hours or more.

Thanks Kevin, only lights and plugs off AC shall remain working... Hopefully it shouldn't take more than 2 Hours. Like idea of battery pump..

Every aquarist should have at least one battery operated air pump. There should be at least one on every aquarium. The ones I use are plugged into the wall, and only come on if the power goes off.

Penn Plax B11 pumps.

I keep a power inverter in my car in case of emergency with power.

It tonks your car battery even with the engine running, but plugging it in for 15 minutes every hour or so via extension cable keeps things OK for semi-extended periods.

I forgot to add that my salt water tanks have two backup air pumps, because salt water is denser than fresh and cannot hold O2 as well or as long.
