How long did you wait till you introduced your 1st clam?

Its close to 6 weeks since I setup my aquarium. It cycled in the 2 week mark with NSW and cured LR I had cured for 6 weeks in several buckets.

Currently have 3 fish, all about 3", and 2 cleaner shrimp and 8 turbo snails.

When would be a good time to introduce clams to my system? I intend to keep mainly SPS/clams in the future.

Lighting is 400W 14K MH with 2x24w t5 actinics, tank dimensions are 30x24x30 - 93 gals. I'm skimming with a deltec AP600.

Also do you really find that your clams are efficient in reducing nitrates and or phosphates?

Cheers,

as long as your tank remains steady, it should be no problem adding a clam. i waited 2 months. most will say wait till the tank matures (6 months to 1 year)

Thanks guys. I think I'll wait till the 10 week mark. Its very steady as I use about 2lbs per gallon of LR, and it cycled only in 2 weeks, with not much of a ammonia and nitrite spike.

Anyone here introduced it much quicker than 10 weeks and had success?

I would wait till at least 6 months. Your water stability will be an issue if you don't wait a little longer.

I was thinking of introducing my first sps in the 6 month mark. Might as well do the same with the clams as most of you guys say wait for about 6 months.

Thanks

i would not try it but i put one in a tank that was only like 2 week old and still have him been like 6m.now

I reckon 8 - 12 weeks should be ok, depending on what other livestock one has. I only have 3 fish and I'm on the 6 week mark. Perhaps in 12 weeks I can put one in and I'll be ok. I'll definitely wait 6 months to introduce my sps, but I think I'll start with a clam or two first.
