How Long do Snails Live?

Serra asked a question in another thread that we have been ignoring for the sake of bickering, etc. I thought we might actually want to answer it.

Serra, could you rephrase your snail query here? Thanks!!!

I must have over looked it. Most snails live for about 5 years while some will live up to 15. I'm sure there are some that live longer or shorter lives. This is just general for snail; land, freshwater, and marine.

I think the little snails in my freshwater are going to live forever. and multiply outrageously the whole time.

I've had my saltwater for over a year now and havn't lost any snails to natural causes serra. All the dead ones were violently killed by hermits.

Freshwater snails don't live that long.

Many live less then a year or just over a year.

Many however reproduce at rediculous rates.

Simple answer to a complex question.

How long do snails live? Till they die!!

I can't believe someone didn't know this already.

What I was wanting to know you smarty pants, is how long should an Astria live under good conditions in our tanks.

Quite a while. I've had mine for 1.5 years and it hasn't always been in good conditions. I'm sure that it was at least 1-2 years old when I got it, so I would guess that an average lifespan on 5 years in a good captive system isn't unheard of
