How long does it take to seed media in a cycled tank?

Hey Reefers,

I have been trying to find a general consensus on this but have not had much success-

How long (on average) would it take to seed bio media (marine pure balls) after placing it in a cycled aquarium. I want to jumpstart my qt observation tank with seeded media from my display tank. I have heard anywhere from 1 week to 2 months. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

A week usually works for me for sponges or rock; two is surer. Keep it in an unlit or shaded area.

I left media in my sump for four weeks when i was prepring for my 250. The longer the better but i would think 2 weeks and you should be good to go.
