How long for ich or brook to present itself?

Bought some clowns about three weeks ago, and have them in QT, currently mid-way through the first of two rounds of Prazipro.

I'm prepared to do a preventative treatment of ich-shield (chloroquine phosphate) once the second round of Prazipro is complete.

Question is should I observe them for symptoms for a certain period of time, or give them the preventative treatment of CP?

Brook (and velvet) usually appear within 30 days. Ich can be anywhere from a few days to several weeks.

Since I already have the fish in PP, should I follow with a second PP round and then TTM, or some other method?

I'm not a huge fan of TTM, and would rather medicate in QT with CP if possible or worth doing.

I would really advise to avoid medicating the QT without a clear indication of an actual infection. All medicines are in some regard toxins with side effects, and most chemicals used to treat fish parasites are outright toxins and just the lesser of two evils. (There may be exceptions with certain fish that are highly likely to have certain infections, but never for ich.)

Tank transfers are the best prevention method for ich if it doesn't show. No need for long term exposure to chemicals.

If the fish are acutely sick with ich I personally prefer hyposalinity as treatment (no chemicals needed either), ideally followed by TTM to be sure all ich is gone. If the fish isn't too sick with ich, both can also be done in combination.

For new fish an initial formalin dip against hidden brook, velvet or uronema is the lesser evil than having to treat them later with more aggressive means (if you see and ID those infection early enough to get a treatment started at all.)

Thank you for the advice. How would you suggest I administer the formalin - as a bath? 37% for how long? Then the TTM?

Formalin preferably as a bath: 20 drops (= 1 ml) per gallon for 45 to 50 minutes.
It's important to provide good aeration during the bath as formalin binds oxygen.

Formalin is formaldehyde in a watery solution. If any formaldehyde gases out it will be minute - likely much less than what gases out from the plywood and hardwood floors in your house.
It never hurts to open a window though.

How can I cleanse my QT system without losing my bio filter?

No need for bio filtration during the TTM and just add some prime on the second day to take care of minor ammonia levels. As far as having bio filtration in the following observation period, take something that has been seeded from the DT--never the other way around!!! Discard or sterilize after using.

For my QT protocol, I use TTM in 20 gallon aquariums (completely different sets of dedicated equipment plus a third on hand) and then they go into a 50 gallon observation tank that is continuously running with live rock--a small reef.

That dilute of formalin is fine as long as you're not face-first in the bucket, just crack a window.

4. DT

Depending on what fish you are dealing with you may switch 2 and 3.

Optional TTM additions:
- formalin dips during transfers,
- PraziPro

After formalin dip and TTM the fish need to go into a clean (= disease free) QT
