How long for tank raised clown to host?

I have had clownfish and anenomes for the three years that I have been in the hobby. I tried everything to get my pairs of tank raised clowns to host. I didn't have any luck with pictures or flashlights or food. I even purchased a hosting pair of black O. clowns and after a couple of days they left the anenome and did what all the others before them had done...go up to the corners and host under the power heads.

To say the least I was very frustrated. It wasn't until just over a year ago that a problem lead to the solution for me. I had a pair of ORA snowflakes, Johnny and June, and a RBTA in my community reef tank. I went out of town for vacation and while away the ballast broke on my 250w MH. The tank was in darkness for a total of 2 weeks while I was away due to issues with replacement ballasts. When I returned to my amazement the clowns were hosting. Once the ballast was replaced I was worried they would return to their old ways. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were happy in their new home. They have stayed hosting in the nem ever since.

Thats neat! I might try that, since I dont have any corals yet. So your lights were off for 2 weeks? Did the anemone not go hungry?
