How long should I quarantine new fish?

Just set up my quarantine tank and wondering how long I should quarantine my new fish? Any suggestions?

Could be a few weeks, maybe longer, it just depends. Long enough to see if they have any disease or illness and if so, adequate time to treat it and make sure they are healthy. Also, when quarantining, I would try to make sure a fish actually has something before medicating the **** out of it. Some meds like copper (Even chelated), can still be hard on the fish.

I did 8 weeks just to be on the safe side. No reason to rush in this hobby..

You'll get a wide range of answers to that question. Personally I go 3-4 weeks if they are eating, active and don't seem distressed.

i would highly recommend using Tank Transfer Method (TTM) though, along with an observation period afterwards.

i limit my prophylactic treatment to prazi during TTM. copper is not a great med to use due to dosing difficulties and its tendency to be harsher on fish.

+2, I go 6 weeks of QT observation after the TTM.

Although disease prevention is the most obvious benefit to QT, the ability to fatten up a new fish is almost as important (and underappreciated). 5 weeks plus (I do 8-12) allows you to accomplish both.
