How long should it take to reach desired temp on a new tank

Tank is a 10g nano and heater is a 50w Eheim Jager. When I first added water to the tank the temp was around 60. After about 3 days it finally hit 65. So I bumped the heater setting to 87 to try to speed the process, but 2 days later I'm only at 70. My homes AC is at 70. The light on the heater is going on and off. So it's doing something, right ?

What is your desired temp? Sounds like it is heating the water. I'd give at least 48 hours between heater adjustments. If your room temp is 70, the heater may not be enough if you are wanting to get to 79 or 80 degrees

Target 80. Room should be 70. I'll double check in the AM. also gonna buy another thermometer tomorrow.

Also, I'm using a glass thermometer. These are better than glass. Right

It's a sub mersible. Im pretty sure a 50w Jagar should be more than enough. There's no sump holding extra water.

There's just too many links in your link for me to follow, but I'm pretty sure the rule of thumb is 2w-5w per gallon.

The thermometers on the heaters usually need to be calibrated, they are often off by several degrees. Eheim heaters have an adjustable dial so when the heater turns off, rotate the dial so that the arrow points to the actual temperature. I would however check your glass thermometer for accuracy against a trusted thermometer. I have a good lab grade thermometer I use for calibrations.

Between my last post and yours, I figured out they need calibration. So I adjusted it as much as it would let me (maybe 4*), definitely not enough. However I'll get a new thermometer tomorrow and post back.
