well last night a buddy gave me an anemone(sabae) and i was wondering how long till my clowns dive in, i was hoping overnight but this morning it was just a dissapiontment. Is there anything that i can do to encourage them to start hosting. I have had the clowns since they were very young (false percula) and hoping that they will pair up (i think they have).Any suggestions?

You're not going to like this.

Maybe never.

You need to leave them alone and they either will or won't host. It can take anywhere from 24 hours to multiple years. Just give it time.

I took my perc over 3 weeks to finally host in my BTA. Just give it some time but if your looking for something to do while you wait. I've heard tails of people taking pictures of clowns hosting in anenomes and taping them onto the tank. I guess its supposed to give some encouragment.

The only thing I have ever heard of helping was a spotlight. Spotlight the anemone during the night hours. The clowns may head for the light and "bump" into it. However this has been tried with both positive and negative results, take what you want from that.

you can not force them in. doing so can hurt the fish. also is the anemone is bleached hosting clowns can lead to it end.

The anemone is kinda bleached because my buddy had poor conditions, but not that bad, i was thinking that when i feed the tank i could mostly spot feed around the anemone so that they are almost forced into recognizing what it was. as for the bleaching i read somwhere that the interaction with the clowns will help improve the health of him faster than without thed fish...

i usually see it the other way around. that when the clowns host it is unhelpful to the bleached anemone. However, i do not claim to be an expert so take what i say with a grain of salt

It's different for every clownfish from what I understand. But mine found my RBTA within 3 days (maybe less). Interesting thing about it is that the clownfish is blind, and the RBTA was under the rocks. The clownfish used to spend all his time in the upper corner of the tank. Then I noticed he was not in his spot one night, and he had found his RBTA underneath all the rocks. Now he almost never leaves.

The best thing to do is match your clowns w/ their natural anomne. I think true percs live in carpet. Mine hosted in less than five minutes. My maroon also hosted an rbta in 1 day. chek the thread at the top tosee clowns and their naturals.

Now that theyve found him he is ****ed, there picking on him and besides that now that the light is on it is like he wants to extend his tenticles but keeps pulling them back is the light too strong, should i move himlower on his rock or let him walk? Im due for my water change tonight tommorrow should i wait?

my clowns are about two feet away from my rbta and in 6 months have never gone near it.. they stay in their corner and spawn regularly

Mine were not interested in the rbta for weeks and I was getting a little nervous. They just swam in place in the corner of my tank anyway, so before I went to bed each night I would get my net and slowly "nudge" them over towards the anemone. They would usually stay there for awhile. After doing that for a few days I woke up one morning with two clowns in a rbta! :) It can take some time though. (And be careful with them if you try this method! Don't force them too much.)
