hello all

as the title cryptically eludes to , I am wondering how long i should keep our semi-adult but JERK 4inch chevron tang in a time out tank to make him forget his old DT tank.

some pics of squishy from 11/30/12 till recent 12/1/2013
his baby pic

his toddler pic

his PUNK teenager pic - most recent

the reason i captured Captain squishy is we are adding a very small (2inch or so) Achilles hybrid to the display soon and and i don't want squishy to MURDER him.
Spock's (achillies hybrid) qt process will be over saturday and will be ready for DT

SO how long to keep squishy out of the dt to wipe his memory of being the boss of it ? i was thinking 21 days ?
Comment? thoughts? suggestions?

First of all, beautiful fish! Love the chevron color change pictures, and the names :)

21 days should be plenty of time.

That seems long enough right? That means the hybrid will be in there 18 days so hopefully he doesn't get to aggressive even tho he is tiny- also i am adding some rock and moving the rest around --

I think he is a A. japonica X A. achilles hybrid. Very nice.
I never keep a Chevron so I don't know how aggressive they are. How big is the tank?

The hybrid being aggressive upon reintroduction of the chevron would be my main concern, but it should be alright since the chevron is much larger.

A. japonica X A. achilles hybrid.

A. nigricans X A. achilles

Don't add the rock till your about to put the chevron back in and the achilles hybrid has been in there for awhile, this will throw them both off a little bit when being put together.

^^^ correct -

Rock is already in now - for HUMAN reasons I had to add it before my gf got on me lol- so rock is in - yeah I prob add Spock Sunday and then add squishy in about a week later assuming Spock eats like a champ if we have problems then I will sell squishy to a new tank

How can you be so sure that it is a A. nigricans instead of A. japonicus cross?
The slight orange color just near the edge of the dorsal fin, near the tail cause me to think that it is a A. japonicus cross

never heard of a of a powder brown and a Achilles hybrid just the whitecheek/achillies

but its a DD fish, so i defaulted to them on it

would Love details on that ^^^ ---

Yeah hybrid pretty amazing thing of nature since tangs 'group' breed ( not even close on terminology on that)

I pulled my powder blue from the dt for 2 weeks when adding a purple tang, semilarvatus and flame angel. I also rearranged the rock when I moved the three new fish into the DT.

In the process, I moved the pbt to the qt first as I was in the middle of a water change and then moved the 3 fish to the dt. The purple went after the pbt. The pbt is 3-4x as big as the purple. In the space of a couple of minutes, the purple ended up with two chunks out of its fins. It learned from this experience and didn't attempt to bother the pbt when I introduced it into the dt two weeks later.

While it depends on the individual fish, I think you will be fine at 2-3 weeks of keeping the chevron out and then reintroducing it (I would move the rock around some just to break up the chevron's idea of territory). You can always tape a mirror to the side of the tank if there is too much real aggression on reintroduction of the chevron, but I doubt you will see much more than posturing.
