How long will my G. smithii molt for?

This question is mainly aimed at Dr. Roy. Could you please give me an estimate on how long a 2.5 - 3 inch G. smithii will hold up for in his hole while molting? The reason i ask is because i came home from school and saw alot of sand piled on the front area of his rock. I havnt seen him since yesterday afternoon but i saw him yesterday morning. I am a litttle woried because i hear of alot of stomatopods dieng in molts. Is there any thing i can do to ensure he survives? And on another sub topic, what are the chances he will get that nice purple shell that i see on some smithii's? Thank you for your time.

Tagging on to your thread, it's funny cause I was about 15mins away from posting the same thing!:) I was starting to get worried about my smithii. He's about the same size and I haven't seen him since Monday before last! I knew he was in his burrow because for the first couple of days I could hear him chipping away on something. I figured he was molting and was going to be in there in while. I took that time to do a small water change and trim some macro. That's where I thought I messed up because after that his tank was TOTALLY silent, even as of now I haven't heard a sound. I thought I was just being paranoid given that fact that this is his first since I've had him and I have also read of mantids not surviving a bad molt. I too, was also wondering if he's going to emerge with a new color.:) I knew that it happens and seemingly often in the wennerae species but I was wondering if it happens to them as well.

it happens to smithiis too, i took the moment of silece for granted and got some new corals and am seting them up as i speak!

Come on Dr. Roy, help us please

Im still not for sure the ID of my bug, but im leaning to a smithii. He is hiding a lot right now, but I have seen mine molt for almost 10 days
