How Long Will New Wrasse Stay Buried?

In Memoriam
I added a new Christmas Wrasse last night. Of course it immediately buried in the sand. How long will it stay that way? It's been about 12 hours.

Thanks

Generally, it's been my experience that when someone is sleepin' wit duh fishes.....it's pretty much a permanent ting. But ya gotta give 'im his due respect. Afterall, he did shoot his mouttth off to the head of the Sardini Family. But hey, Business is Business. It's never personal.

He might stay buried for another day or so.

Try and keep traffic to a minumum near the tank, and he will be more secure.

I had a new leopard wrasse stay buried for ten days once! But the your wrasse should not be so skittish as a leopard.

Be sure your tank is covered. :)

Thanks for the reassurance Laura. Never had this kind of wrasse before. He buried right under the RBTA so there is a lot of fish traffic there. I guess he does not know that though. The tank is covered.

I had a halichoeres melanurus stayed buried for 4 days after moving him to a new tank. He'll come back out when he's ready. ;)

My Iridis stayed buried for a couple of days , then would come out daily for couple of hours. He eventually stayed out a little longer but since he was in qt and alone at first, he hid a lot....Now in the main, he is out quite late, often till 11pm...but he doesn't get up till noon:rolleyes: Like a teenager;)

Give him some time...don't do what I did and assume he died or jumped..After not seeing him for a couple of days, I started to remove the sand from my qt....OUT HE JUMP! Scared me to death!

I can see the burial mound so I know he's there.

It's funny, I got the wrasse partly because I have a new angel fish I wanted to add to the tank. My lyrtail anthias and purple tang are very hard on new tank mates. So I thought adding two fish at the same time might take the presuure of a little. Now I have one buried in the sand and one out in the open on his own. Best layed plans...

The christmas wrasse is my number one favorite reef fish. You will love him.

Mine was a perfect citizen, got along with everybody! Real mellow dude, beautiful fish, and he ate all my flatworms, bonus!

However, one night I came down to the fish room and found him dried up on the floor. I had fed the fish earlier and then forgot to close the glass top and he jumped. I have mourned and mourned that fish. If I ever see another one I would buy it in a heartbeat. he was truly a great fish.

Here he is...
