how long?

Rocky
What kind of a time frame should I be looking at before starting to add a clam to my tank? My current tank has been up and running for about two months now, however all livestock, live rock and a good portion of sand was moved from my previous set up that was up about a year and a half. Water perameters look good, no ammonia or nitrite, and nitrate is always barely detectable (less than 5ppm). Alk is high and calcium is steady ( between 420-460), as well. My tank is a 65 gallon that is lit with two 250watt, 10K m/h bulbs. So, not wanting to jump the gun here, but not wanted to wait six months longer than I need to, are there any opinions on what steps I should take to further prepare the tank for the addition of a clam? Should I just keep waiting to make sure everything stays steady? This will be more first clam and just want to make sure Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m prepared before hand. Thanks for reading, I realize this is all pretty basic, but I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to take anything for granted.

I waited for six months though most reccomend at least that long to a year...for your tank to become stable and rid itself of the diatom/algae blooms. I think looking back on it I was very lucky....I should have waited longer, but so far they are all very healthy. A lot of it has to do with whom/where you get your clams from as well. In retrospect I should have waited a couple months longer...now my tank params are a lot more stable. However if your tank was previously established I would say as long as your params are stable thumbs up
