How loud is a 6100 supposed to be?

I found a used 6100, and this thing realllly moves water! LOL I'm loving it, but it seems to be a little louder than I remember my friends Tunze. He has the 7091 controller, and if I remember correctly, you can't even hear the pump at all.

With my 6100, the noise isn't too loud at full throttle, but the more I slow it down, the louder it gets, and at some point, it starts to get a ticking or rattling sound (around half throttle and slower). Does it need a simple cleaning, a new magnet/prop setup, or is this normal?

If it's a cleaning, is removing the prop/magnet as simple as removing the strainer and then pulling the prop/mag straight out? I tried to pull it out once, but it seemed like it was in there good, and I didn't want to break anything trying to pull it out.

Clean it thouroughly, including removing the brakes. See the sticky on the top of the forum and follow Rogers pictorial instructions. Be careful with the brakes, they are tiny and can easily be lost.

When you reassemble, keep the unit underwater when you replace the prop assembly back into the unit.

That should help.

It sounds like it dried out with some minerals inside and just needs a good cleaning.

Before getting started on the cleaning, is there a simple way to determine if mine uses brakes? Maybe a model number or something on the box that could be used to determine this - before I get my arms wet. :)

Sorry, I spent all day yesterday working on the tank, so my hands are still recovering. :)

Besides opening the pump there is no way to tell.

Ahh well, I guess I'll be diving in this afternoon. :) Do I simply remove the strainer and then pull the magnet/prop straight out?
