How many days before spawning will the ovipositor show?

I cant work out if mt female maroon has an abcess or her ovipositor has dropped.
I noticed a small but distinct protuberance yesterday evening just in front of the anal fin It is still there this morning and although they are an established pair they have not spawned for me yet. She is eating and behaving normally but the pair have shown no extra aggression or pre spawning cleaning behaviour.

Any comments experience welcome.

I have never seen an ovipositor until minutes before the actual egg laying.

Ditto, my clarkiis just spawned the other day and it was only out during the "act"
